Citi wanting to help people, what a lie!!!! We were contacted by CitiMortgage in October of 2009 to see if we were interested in a lower monthly payment (who wouldn't be?). Asked if we have experienced any financial hardships and the answer was yes due to a decrease in my husbands income as a result of the declining economy. In spite of the income hardship we were never behind on any of our bills, including our mortgage, we were just struggling a little, nothing we couldn't handle. After a phone interview, the CM rep congratulated us on being pre-approved under HAMP, gave us details as to what they needed from us to complete the modification and what our new monthly payment would be during the next 3 months. 3 months turned into 19 months and now our home is in foreclosure.
